After a successful year of learning about and applying leadership principles, student leaders enjoyed a final leadership luncheon.
Current organization leaders as well as newly elected and appointed leaders met together for a special session acknowledging student leadership’s contribution to Academy student life. Mr. Kasey McClure of BJU’s Center for Leadership Development, who worked with BJA leadership to provide the leadership training, challenged this year’s student leaders and faculty to take time before the end of the school year to effectively “pass the torch” by evaluating the year and giving the resulting helpful information to the new officers. Ashlyn Stephens, one of this year’s senior class vice president, urges next year’s leaders to “make the most of the leadership meetings next year and work to apply the principles learned.”
Next year’s leadership program builds on what was accomplished this year. A leadership retreat will be held in August, and mini-workshops will be presented about three times each semester. Students in this past year’s leadership program have been very positive about the opportunities the program has provided—from the value of mixing with other student leaders to making applications both at school and at home from lessons learned.
