As part of their community service project and in conjunction with their science unit, second-grade students recently had the opportunity to aid Greenville Animal Care by making rice socks. The socks are used to help puppies or cats with recovery from surgery. The socks are also used to comfort the animals when stressed. Paula Church and Patti Raines, coordinators of Animal Care, visited BJA and even brought a rescue dog along to meet the students. The students learned why pets go to Animal Care and how the pets are tenderly cared for before a home is found for them. Pet care and animal adoption is a favorite topic among the students.
