From Monday, Nov. 7 through Friday, Nov. 11, middle school students collected assorted grocery store products for their annual food drive for Miracle Hill Children’s Home. The homerooms competed throughout the week, earning points by meeting collection goals in categories that included dry and canned goods, paper products, beverages, condiments, toiletries, and cleaning supplies. The competition included collecting, sorting, counting, boxing and weighing the various collected and donated items. After students weighed the boxes, they loaded them on a truck trailer provided by Miracle Hill. Homeroom 8-2, led by Mrs. Bishop, brought in over 2,700 items that weighed nearly 4,000 pounds to win the competition. Overall, the 147-member student body collected more than 11,000 items totaling over 18,000 pounds! On Tuesday, Nov. 15, the winning class traveled to MHCH to enjoy a pizza lunch, have a brief tour of one of the cottages, learn how MHCH sorts and stores what they and their classmates contributed, and begin unloading the truck.
