Games, costumes, food and fun made up the 2017 BJA Spirit Week. Each level developed days to celebrate school spirit—all culminating in an alumni basketball game Friday evening.
Elementary students came to school on Monday with wacky hair and hats. On Tuesday they celebrated 100 days of school by dressing as future versions of themselves. The rest of the week included storybook characters, class themes and blue/white days. Each day included the wearing of BJA buttons, games, and prizes for participation.
“Who Stole Middle School Spirit” brought good participation and excitement for seventh- and eighth-graders. The week began with bright neon day followed by detective day, mismatch day, homeroom day, and blue and white day. Students enjoyed solving campus trivia, math and logic problems for team spirit as well as following clues at “crime scenes” to figure out who stole the school spirit. Turns out that Mr. Jones was the culprit!
High school students followed the theme of “Academy Spirit: A Timeless Tradition.” Each day students wore clothing to match the decades of the ’20s (stripes), the ’50s (polka dots), the ’70s (flowers) and the ’90s (plaids). Friday was blue and white day. Each day students played games in the Quadrangle for class points—and the week culminated with a Student Body Organization program.
BJA Spirit Week ended with a packed-out crowd at Friday night’s 90th Anniversary Alumni Basketball Game. Elementary families celebrated elementary spirit night with fun games and plenty of blue and white pride! Senior athletes and their parents were honored, and we were thrilled to host a representative of Piedmont Women’s Center who presented their newest building project and their vision for ministering in the community. The alumni basketball game was no disappointment and proved to be a nail-biter as the men’s and women’s teams played alternating quarters. In a final buzzer shot, the alumni team broke through and captured the night by two points!
