Congratulations to freshman Paulina Lopez for recently earning her black belt in karate. Paulina trains under Joe Lanier, the owner and instructor at Joe Lanier’s Shorin Ryu Kensankai Karate and Kobudo Dojo located at 1158 Rutherford Road in Greenville. The promotion and traditional tea ceremony was done by 9th degree black belt Sensei Doug Perry and 7th degree Patsy Callahan who is a U.S. team world silver medalist and multi-time national AAU champion. Sensei Perry was Paulina’s instructor before she moved to Greenville. Lanier said of Paulina, “Paulina is a fine person with a great heart and has worked extremely hard at her karate to get to the level she is now.”
