As was discussed in a previous article, Bob Jones University recently divided into two companies—BJU Inc. and BJU Educational Group Inc. Dr. Steve Pettit is president and CEO of BJU Inc. On April 4, the BJUEG board hired Dr. Ken Bixby to be the president and CEO of the BJU Educational Group.
Uniquely, BJA has a presence in each of these companies. The elementary school is part of BJU Inc. while the secondary school is part of BJUEG. The Academy general administration, which is part of BJUEG, will continue to provide leadership for both the elementary and secondary schools.
In his new position, Dr. Bixby will oversee the BJU Press and BJA. “I am honored to be chosen to work with the BJU Education Group,” says Ken Bixby. “It is an amazing organization with an excellent purpose. My first focus will be to learn more from our team, to determine how I can support the organization to grow our missional influence, and to strengthen the organization through synergies focused on K-12 education.”
Dr. Bixby and his wife Clara live in Simpsonville. He serves as a lay pastor of Palmetto Baptist Church under the leadership of his pastor, Dr. Jason Ormiston.
Dr. Bixby worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 33 years in senior management and executive positions in Indiana, Illinois, North Carolina, England, Indonesia, and China. He holds a BS in Industrial Engineering and an MS in management from Purdue University and a PhD in Business Administration from Anderson University in Indiana.
“Ken is known for strong leadership skills and empowering people to achieve beyond their own expectations,” says Dr. Pettit. “He has a proven track record of quick business turnaround at a number of business sites in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. While both BJU Press and Bob Jones Academy are stable entities, his experience in leading business turnarounds will be a major asset as both of these groups push for further growth.”
In the three weeks that he has been on board, Dr. Bixby has demonstrated his love for the Lord and His Word, his expertise in business, and his ability to motivate employees to achieve their potential for the glory of God.
Thank you for your prayers for Dr. Bixby in his new role as CEO.
