Christmas vacation is finally here! The students (and teachers) have been looking forward to this break for some time. Everyone is ready for some rest!
I am always amazed at how tired we are the day after a vacation. It almost seems as if we need to come back to school to get some rest! While vacations bring welcome relief from homework and studies, the days off can often waste away and become a time of yielding to laziness and sin. With a little planning, however, vacation time can be profitable rather than fruitless.
Let me recommend that you take a little time at the beginning of this Christmas break to sit down with your children and set some goals. Without goals, much time may be squandered. Goals may include book reading; rearranging a bedroom; going on a hike; cleaning a closet; making Christmas cards for relatives and friends; cooking, baking, or preparing a special meal for another family; and more importantly, planning your child’s devotional time and opportunities of service for the Lord. It helps to create a simple list and schedule for accomplishing these goals. At the end of vacation a child can review the list and reflect on his or her worthwhile accomplishments.
By setting goals, our children can put into practice Romans 13:14, which encourages us to “put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.”
I trust that this Christmas will be a profitable time for your family. We wish the entire BJA family a Merry Christmas! See you in the new year!
