The speech and debate team competes on weekends (about fifteen during the school year) in public and privates schools in a three-state area. Team members compete in debate, public speaking, and interpretation events. In addition to competing locally, the team competes in the state speech tournament and in the National Speech and Debate Association (formerly the National Forensic League) national tournament.
Members have the opportunity to join the National Speech and Debate Association, which is the nation’s largest speech and debate organization. The NSDA is an honor society.
Students interested in being on this year’s team should attend an interest meeting on Tuesday, August 22, at 3:30 pm in B-107. This meeting will be for those who competed last year and also for all other interested students. The meeting will include explanations of speech opportunities for competitions and team expectations. There will also be a time to ask questions. If parents have any questions, please contact Chuck Nicholas.
