Ready or not, it’s time to start thinking about classes for next school year. Registration for summer school and for fall classes begins next week.
Summer School
- General summer school information
- Online registration begins Wednesday, April 17. This is a change from a previous announcement.
- To confirm successful registration for a class, check your student’s summer schedule in Sycamore one full business day after submitting the online request.
- Registration is a first-come process. If a class fills, a waiting list is created while our academic office looks for ways to successfully seat each student wanting a summer school class. The academic office contacts parents when able to move a student from the waiting list to the class roll.
Fall Registration
- Information about high school courses, graduation requirements, and more
- Grades 8–11 parent meeting: Tuesday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Applied Studies Building (across from the Cleaners), includes details about the registration process as well as an overview of high school academics.
- Grades 8–11 student meetings: April 17 chapels (grade 8, 8:10 a.m.; grades 9–11, 10:55 a.m.) in the Academy Auditorium; a student version of the parent meeting the previous evening; parents are welcome to attend.
- Coffee with the Advisors: Wednesday, April 17, and Monday, April 22, both from 3– 5 p.m. in the Markham Center; informal drop-in opportunities to discuss registration or other academic concerns.
- Registration request form: available online beginning April 16 and at parent and student meetings; request fall classes (including dual-credit classes for qualifying rising juniors and seniors) and music lessons.
- Registration: students bring completed registration request forms to English class April 23–26; academic office staff work with the students during class to complete the online registration.
- Change requests: once students have registered at school, parents can view the student’s course requests in Sycamore; changes in registration requests can be made at no charge through the end of the school year. Change requests after May 9 incur a $5 fee through June 23, $15 through July 14, and $25 through August 2. After August 2 changes are made for administrative purposes only.
Placement Tests for College Classes
Some college classes require a placement test before a student can register for the course (e.g., foreign language courses or math courses).
The online test takes approximately 10 to 30 minutes. Interested students should contact the academic office for access to the placement test and instructions. The test must be completed for the academic office to register the student for the course.
Part-Time Students
Part-time students should follow the registration procedures above and come to one of the times listed below.
- April 23—Rising twelfth-graders during English 11 (1st, 5th, or 6th hour)
- April 24—Rising eleventh-graders during English 10 (2nd, 3rd, or 6th hour)
- April 25—Rising tenth-graders during English 9 (2nd, 3rd, or 6th hour)
- April 26—Rising ninth-graders during English 8 (4th, 6th, or 7th hour)
Part-time students desiring to be full-time students in the fall should include on the registration request form only the desired electives so that a seat is reserved for the student in those courses. After receiving a final transcript for that student, academic office personnel work with parents to add the core classes to the registration requests to complete the student’s registration.
Please contact the academic office with any questions or concerns.
