COVID-19 resulted in many canceled events and other significant changes for the end of the 2019–2020 school year. But graduation for the Class of 2020 was not to be stopped. Even though classes remained online until the end of the semester, administrators determined to give seniors a special graduation and gave hours of planning to the endeavor.
The drive-through graduation for the Class of 2020 took place on the original graduation date, May 14. Seniors and their families arrived in vehicles, including convertibles and limousines and everything between, decorated for the occasion. After checking in on the far side of the campus ball field, cars lined up around the field to make the important stop in front of the high school for the receiving of diplomas.
One-by-one vehicles pulled up as each graduate, donned in cap and gown, took the outdoor stage to receive a diploma from his or her parents and to pose for an official graduation photo. The now-graduated senior’s vehicle then proceeded down a fan-lined street to complete the drive-through graduation.
The Class of 2020 includes 101 graduates. Of these, 93 plan to go to college this fall: 73 to Bob Jones University; 4 to Greenville Technical College; 3 each to Clemson University, North Greenville University, and the University of South Carolina; and 1 each to Anderson University, EI School of Biblical Training, Furman University, Liberty University, Maratha Baptist University, and Word of Life Bible Institute.
