A couple of months ago, many were asking, “What is Boosterthon?” And, now, we all know! Now, Boosterthon conjures up colorful thoughts of children dressed up in red and blue running, walking, and skipping laps around the Boosterthon oval on the lower field of the elementary school.
The K3 and K4 children began as aimless sheep that were shepherded within the boundary cones. It didn’t take long for them to realize they were to frolic around the oval. Each lap they paused to have a tally marked on the back of their shirts. The tallies increased quickly toward the maximum of 35. Most of them achieved their goals, and some even completed 35 laps!
The K5-2nd grade students followed the preschoolers and then, the 3rd through 5th graders. It was such a joy to see many parents watching from the “carline gallery” and cheering on their Boosterthoners! And the Lord provided a beautiful blue-sky day! The wind increased through the course of the day to the point that the flags and bright blow-up arch had to be taken down because they were taking off in the wind! But the winds did not discourage the students who were participating.
The element of color was added for the middle and high school groups and, boy, did the students love that! There was plenty of color for all who wanted some. White shirts were transformed into colorful tie-dye shirts. Hair quickly changed colors from pink to blue to green. Teachers, too, fully engaged and came under color attack from students! Mr. McCrum emerged looking like Mr. Smurf!
Everyone had fun, but the best part of all was that money was raised to make improvements at the school—a whole lot of money! The goal—set ambitiously high at $80,000—was reached! For that, we give a great big thank you to all who had a part—planning, participating, giving!
The funds will enable the elementary school to complete outfitting every classroom with new desks. The middle school will purchase additional lunchroom tables. The high school funds will be used for quadrangle upgrades.
Thank you for each who participated—students, faculty, staff, family, and friends. We love our BJA family!
