BJA’s middle and high school students have been busy this semester!
Not only have they worked hard in their academic classes, but they also have excelled applying their skills and talents outside of the classroom.

Middle School SC Bar Mock Trial: A middle school mock trial class formed the 17-member team that competed against middle schools from all over the state. Students played the roles of attorneys and witnesses using a case provided by the SC Bar. BJA won all three trials and came in third place. Coached by Mr. Chuck Nicholas and Attorney Ruth DiPasquale, the following students won individual awards:

Invitational Band Clinic: Select band students were chosen to participate in the 40th Winthrop University Invitational Band Clinic. Students spent three days at Winthrop attending workshops and rehearsals culminating in a concert Saturday evening. The BJA band director is Alex Wright.

Region Orchestra: Thirteen students qualified through auditions for Region Orchestra. Rachelle Whitcomb is the BJA orchestra director. Students are now eligible to audition for All-State in January.

Speech and Debate Team: The team has started out strong this season. The following have won distinguished awards through the National Speech and Debate Association and through competitions. Chuck Nicholas, Gail Nicholas, and Shawn Chisholm coach the team.
- Cayden Meissner, Eli McGee and Jimmy Chisholm–NSDA Academic All-American Award (Cayden, Eli and Jimmy join 7 other seniors with this honor–a school record!)
- NSDA 100 Club Recognition (Programs that have accumulated over 100 NSDA degrees—meaning that BJA is among the largest programs in the nation.)
- Jenks and Will Goff –1000 NSDA competition points
