Jon Pridgeon, a freshman at Bob Jones Academy and a member of Troop 260, was recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout.
Jon earned a total of 41 merit badges, including the 21 merit badges required for Eagle (12 required and nine elective). These merit badges range from First Aid and Citizenship in the Nation to Astronomy, Chemistry and Aviation.
Jon’s Eagle Project was to construct an entry gate and message board for the Living History Farm at Roper Mountain
Science Center. The project had a combined total of 188 service hours for all of the project volunteers. The project even went beyond its original scope to assist with some repair and cleanup activities for the Farm.
Jon has been in Scouting since entering as a Tiger Cub in first grade. He earned the highest award in Cub Scouts, the Arrow of Light, before crossing over into Boy Scouts in 2008.
Jon had to serve in a position of responsibility in his troop as a requirement for the Eagle rank. For his position, he served as Chaplain’s Aide for his troop. During his time in that position, he instituted a weekly Chaplain’s Aide
Minute at each troop meeting. He would prepare a devotional from Scripture each week, and he gave a devotional to the entire congregation at the troop’s host church on a Scouting Sunday.
Jon’s ceremony was held on Tuesday, October 25, at Devenger Road Presbyterian Church. During the ceremony, he was awarded the Eagle Rank patch and medal.
