After submitting an audition video last November, the Bob Jones Academy senior high handbell choir, the Academy Vibrations, was invited to present one of four showcase concerts at the National Seminar of the Handbell Musicians of America in Cincinnati ,Ohio, on July 19, 2012. Eighteen BJA students presented a 60-minute concert to 400 handbell musicians, receiving two standing ovations from the enthusiastic audience.
The handbell ringers, along with faculty sponsors and several parents, left Greenville at 5 a.m.on Thursday, July 19, to travel to Cincinnation the school coach. The luggage compartments under the coach were fully packed with tables, cushions, over six octaves of Malmark handbells, an additional bell set and five octaves of Choirchimes—students had to carry their luggage on the bus! Following a three-hour rehearsal at the Erich Kunzel Center for Arts and Education, the students presented their showcase concert to an audience made up of teen and adult handbell ringers and their directors from across America and around the world. The students greatly enjoyed performing for fellow handbell musicians!
