The week of Nov. 4–8 began with bonus points for canned fruit and ended with points for paper products. Along the way, the 7th- and 8th-grade students enthusiastically participated in the school’s annual food drive for the Miracle Hill Children’s Home. Students gathered items from home, neighbors and relatives as they sought to earn points by meeting collection goals in a variety of categories. These categories ranged from dry and canned goods to paper products and cleaning supplies, with daily bonus items such as toaster pastries and laundry detergent. Students sorted, boxed and weighed the items before loading them on a truck trailer provided by Miracle Hill. The winning class travels to the Children’s Home where they enjoy a lunch, a brief tour of one of the cottages, and an opportunity to see how MHCH sorts and stores what their school contributed. This year, BJA students gave MHCH over 9,500 items that totaled nearly 11,000 pounds. The winning homeroom was 7-1, led by Mr. Jeff Foster.
