Sixth-grade students in Mrs. Clater’s classes studied animal classification. For Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Annelida, the students got an up-close study opportunity. They analyzed night crawlers by measuring each worm’s length, counting segments, and testing to see if worms have a sense of smell. Each student had a chance to handle one and feel the bristling setae that help them move. What an opportunity to experience God’s incredible creation right in the classroom!
The South Carolina Farm Bureau bought their John Deere tractor simulator to BJA to give first grade and kindergarten classes the opportunity to experience farming and working the fields. Students were able to choose from different plants to harvest. Kindergarten students also learned about “The Little Red Hen” and how she planted wheat seeds and helped them grow, harvested the wheat, and made bread from the wheat flour. The Farm Bureau has a burden to educate children to be future farmers, and this opportunity provided exposure for BJA elementary students as they learn about different occupations and what God might have for them in the future.
