For nearly 45 minutes Monday afternoon, February 24, seventh and eighth graders enjoyed what could be described as an advanced class in government.Their teacher was Congressman Trey Gowdy. Prior to Rep. Gowdy’s visit, students submitted questions in their history classes; and a selected group of those questions was sent to Rep. Gowdy’s office. Congressman Gowdy, with patience and clarity, answered each of the students’ questions. His responses touched on the Constitution, scandals associated with the current administration, tensions between the branches of government, 2014 election prospects, and problems of and possible solutions for the Affordable Care Act. Through repeated use of questions, Congressman Gowdy kept the students engaged and gave them more than just answers. He gave them principles to help them understand the answers.
