Recently the Bob Jones Academy Elementary Advanced Choir was privileged to present a joint performance with the Georgia Boy Choir under the direction of GBC conductor David White, a graduate of BJA. The morning began with a rehearsal, during which the choirs worked on developing their vocal skills as well as preparing the two songs they were to perform together.
All BJA second- through sixth-grade students were privileged to attend the concert, which began with the two combined choir numbers. The Georgia Boy Choir then proceeded to wow their young audience members with their artistry. With boys ranging in age from 9–21, the Boy Choir performed complex music known to be taxing for adult choirs. They skillfully performed a setting of “Ride on, King Jesus” as well as folk songs from a variety of countries, including the Czech Republic, Serbia, China and Russia. They ended the concert with a rendition of the perennially popular “What a Wonderful World.”
Following the concert, BJA choral members mingled with the Boy Choir and presented them a small token of their appreciation for the experience. Beyond presenting a terrific concert and a vocal masterclass, this group conveyed much about producing beautiful music as well as the value of diligent work.
