In celebration of the September 13–14 200th anniversary of the National Anthem, elementary students learned the National Anthem and its history. On September 11, students and teachers remembered those who perished at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania. The events of 9/11 were recounted in chapel, followed by the singing of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” the Pledge of Allegiance, and prayer for our nation and for those mourning the loss of loved ones. Fifth-grade students commemorated September 11 by viewing the remembrance flag and a piece of the World Trade Center’s north tower that is on display in BJU’s Rodeheaver Auditorium.
High school students celebrated the National Anthem and remembered 9/11 with a special flag-raising ceremony. The entire high school student body met in the Quadrangle at 8 a.m. The Student Body officers led the school in a special ceremony including the pledge, comments about the 200th anniversary of the “Star Spangled Banner,” and the singing of the Anthem followed by comments on the 13th anniversary of 9/11. At that point in the ceremony the students and faculty observed a moment of silence while the flag was lowered to half-staff. Faculty members Major Ben Adams and Sergeant Major Todd Kappel represented the military for the event.
