The BJA Forensic Team competes in a four-state region throughout the school year; and although the team competes in many speech and debate events, the team is best known for its successes in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Coach Chuck Nicholas continues to teach a debate class which reaps winners in novice- and varsity-level value debate, including a top 20 finish at the 2014 national tournament. This year is no exception. At the recent Hillcrest High School invitational four of the six students who won trophies were from BJA. At the Laird Lewis invitational hosted by Myers Park High School three BJA debaters were in the top 16 contenders with one BJA debater going all the way to semifinals.
